Some Updates and a Mini Feature!
Hello all...
I don't know if I ever "officially" announced it, but the school semester started up again for me, so I have a lot less time on my hands. I decided to take an extra class this semester because I am an idiot, and I just recently re-arranged my workspace (AKA: my bedroom). I like the organization of everything much better now. I feel less confined and stifled, so hopefully it'll help me be more productive too :D
(This is basically what my workspace looks like right now, except, the desk is moved to another wall, and the space next to it is more organized.)

As you all know, back in December, I finally posted the first episode of my webcomic Callous, and I am working on continuing it on a regular schedule. If you haven't heard yet, part 3 was posted on Tuesday! I'm aiming for the next update to be on Wed

March Feature!
I've decided to do monthly features, because there is simply too much great artwork on dA that goes unnoticed!
If you want to be featured, scroll to the bottom of the journal to learn the rules.
Meanwhile, these are all artworks that I came across recently that I've been meaning to feature for skill and effort, and for how hard they hit me when I looked at them.
Without further ado, these are the March features!

There are Drakes on the Street Where I Live
There are Drakes on the Street Where I Live
From ‘My Fair Draggie’
(With apologies to Lerner & Lowe)
I have often walked
On this street before
But I never have been stalked
Upon clawed feet before…
I look up and scream!
It would surely seem
    There are drakes
    On the street
    Where I live!
They are everywhere,
Lurking spiny things.
I must now take care to
Hide all of my shiny things!
All the dogs are gone,
Scorchmarks on the lawn!
    Snatched by drakes
    On the street
    Where I live!
The sulfur smell is overpowering!
With each blast… of shriveling flame!
I look… See a smug dragon glowering…
And I really don’t have to guess who’s to blame!
Everwhere I look…
I see fangs and spines.
And they’re taking note
Of all the new ‘FOR SALE’ signs!
Though I am contused
I had best get used
    To the d

Oh well, there’s always parallel dimensions and my epic timetravelling skills….. :D

Interests
Hey everyone! Thank you all so much for the watches, it's really encouraging and means the world to me.

To celebrate, here's 10 DA-ers who make work I think is awesome. (They are not numbered in order of awesomeness.)

Aljan by Wolfberry-J

I love the composition, and the use of colour to draw the eye and create a sense of atmosphere is absolutely fantastic.

I don't know very much about photography but man, is this photograph amazing. Stunning composition and beautiful use of focus. Not only that, it really captures the imagination.

Alas for the Lady of Shalott by emera
Alas for the Lady of Shalott by emera
This piece, as well as being beautifully executed with stunning use of texture, has a fantastically dark sense of humour, which I absolutely love!

Talk about badass! Not only does this piece have an amazing compositional flow, but the gestural nature of the brush strokes make everything seem alive.

Reaching out - Acrylic on board by THollander

The artist has captured the flow of light over muscle and skin absolutely perfectly, and the result is sinuous perfection. I also LOVE the sketchy background, which draws attention to the smooth shading on the hands.

This artist produces works that are always exuberant with colour and life. Incredibly charming and beautifully tactile, I would totally stick this on my window!

Peekaboo Squirrel detail by CapascesDigitalInk

This artist always manages to capture the life and character of a subject, often against backgrounds that promote reflection on their nature. Some of their works almost seem surreal!

Colin Rockwell Art Challenge by quiltineb

This artist is insanely good at creating a sense of solidity in a drawing and the way they render cloth and skin is almost unbelievably awesome. I also love the contrasts between light and dark.

I absolutely love this artist's work - they combine sophisticated skill with traditional media with a beautiful and sometimes heartwrenching sense of story. Besides, look at that composition! :D

Sleeping Wolf by HanaKaeru
Sleeping Wolf by HanaKaeru
Aside from having a truly insane amount of detail, this picture leads the eye in all the right directions. The wolf is also beautifully drawn. This picture creates a charming atmosphere of peace and contentedness.

And thank you to all those who commented on my work - it really means a lot to me.

Cheers,
Matakoura

Thank you for the :+devwatch: ! Hey, I see you're pursuing a Bachelors in Digital Art for animation and film...how is that going for you? I'm thinking about heading toward a career with animation in it. What would you suggest I do in preparation for it?
